A morning at the Ciutadella market

The market is in the old cloister on Plaça de la Llibertat, a ten minute drive or a slow half hour on the bike. Saturday is the day.

Go to the cheese stall at the far end first, before the queue. Ask for a young Mahón and a cured one. Then tomatoes, whatever bread is left, and a jar of the fig jam from the woman by the door.

What we buy

Sobrassada from Es Mercadal, the small round one. Sea salt from the salt pans at Fornells. Local honey, which is darker than you expect. And a coca, the flat pastry with peppers and onion, which is lunch.
